What is a device?

A device is any electronic apparatus on which software runs that supports your business processes. This ranges from smartphones and tablets for field workers, to industrial scanners in the warehouse and desktops in the office. In the context of business software, choosing the right device is just as important as the software itself, because it directly affects employee productivity and ease of use.

How does device management work?

Devices in a business environment are centrally managed through an MDM platform (Mobile Device Management). This platform makes it possible to roll out software updates, security settings, and configurations remotely to all devices at once. Wabber advises on and supplies devices that perfectly match the developed software and manages them centrally through our MDM platform, including firmware updates and security policies.

Example

A wholesaler with multiple warehouses engages Wabber for a new WMS. In addition to the software, Wabber supplies rugged industrial scanners that are resistant to dust, moisture, and drops. All scanners are centrally configured through the MDM platform with the correct WMS app and security settings. When a software update is available, it is automatically rolled out overnight to all 200 scanners, without the IT department having to manually update each device.

Why is the right device strategy important?

A well-thought-out device strategy saves your organization time and money. Central management eliminates the need to configure each device individually, while a uniform device policy ensures all employees have the same experience. This simplifies training, reduces support requests, and guarantees that hardware and software are optimally aligned.

Frequently asked questions

Which devices does Wabber supply for warehouses?

Wabber supplies rugged industrial scanners specifically suited for warehouse environments. These devices are resistant to dust, moisture, and drops and come with the WMS software pre-installed. We select devices based on the specific requirements of your work environment.

What is MDM and why do I need it?

MDM (Mobile Device Management) is a platform that centrally manages all business devices. It enables you to remotely install and manage software updates, security settings, and apps. This is essential once your organization uses more than a handful of devices, as manual management is no longer scalable at that point.

Can I use my own devices with Wabber software?

In many cases, yes. Wabber develops software that runs on common devices and operating systems. However, we always recommend having your device specifications verified to ensure the software performs optimally. For warehouse environments, we typically recommend professional industrial scanners due to their higher durability.
